KASSÁK × SZITTYA | Pop-Up Exhibition
–
In April 1909, Lajos Kassák set off on foot from Budapest to Paris, which he recounts in his autobiographical novel, "The Life of a Man". Halfway there, in Stuttgart, he had a fateful encounter with Emil Szittya, with whom he continued his journey as a vagabond. At that time, Szittya was driven by the bohemian avantgarde spirit, while Kassák grew increasingly preoccupied with the social responsibility of art. Although their relationship was marked by tension, the experiences they gained on their journey together had an influence on Kassák’s later artistic vision.
