Kassák! Explore the Museum
Guided tour in the permanent exhibition by curator Edit Sasvári (in Hungarian)

The permanent exhibition tells the story of Lajos Kassák through the periodicals he edited, and the temporary exhibitions present the art of the avant-garde and modernism in its historical, cultural and social context. The exhibition provides a comprehensive view of the versatile oeuvre, the editorial, art and literary activities and the public roles of the great figure of Hungarian avant-garde. With the help of the contemporary documents, publications and works of fine art one can follow the highlights of Kassák’s career and the personal aspects of his course of life. Illustrations help visitors find their way around in the diverse international connections and the rich literary and journalistic work of Kassák. The different topics can also be studied in digital form with even more illustrations and explanatory texts.

19:00–20:00
Getting lost in Someone else's Dream
Curatorial guided tour by Katalin Erdődi (in Hungarian)

Igor and Ivan Buharov, known as experimental filmmakers, but also active in the fields of visual art and music, opened a solo exhibition entitled “We anarchists do not fret over moral maggots” on 22 June at the Kassák Museum. The focus of their new work is Emil Szittya, a versatile avant-garde artist (writer, poet, painter, editor) and anarchist vagabond who had a strong influence on the young Lajos Kassák at the turn of the century. In 2022, the Buharov brothers, in collaboration with curator Katalin Erdődi, won the newly founded Kassák Contemporary Art Prize with a multi-channel film installation using Super 8 technology. Their work is inspired by the life and work of Emil Szittya, who uses his collage-like fragmentary writings and paintings, as well as dreams collected from acquaintances and strangers in occupied France during the Second World War, to create a unique Bukharawian visual world.

21:00–23:00
Boycott Propaganda 5. Antimilitarist Saloon / Proxy Peace
Concert-performance

Boycott Propaganda

The adventures of Emil Szittya’s and Lajos Kassák’s vagabond days, strange figures from Szittya’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and surrealistic scenes from the dreams he collected during World War II come to life in the spaces of the Kassák Museum on the Night of the Museums. Analogue film projection meets experimental music and dadaist mise-en-scène in a concert-performance collectively brought to you by the Good Opinion Anarchist Lodge, Gentry Sultan, KAOS CAMPING and the Buharov brothers. The Boycott Propaganda events organised at Fészek Klub continue with this special edition at Kassák Museum.

You can also join our guided tours with a spritzer in hand.

The event can be attended with a wristband, which can also be purchased at the museum's cash desk. You can also purchase a Múzéj wristband online, here. The wristbands purchased are valid for admission to museums in Budapest on the day of the event.
