A CENTURY OF FEMINIST AVANT-GARDES / Lecture by Sascha Bru
Women artists and writers have been deploying experimental practices to feminist aims at least since the early 20th century. This talk takes the audience on a stroll (or bumpy ride) through the past century into our own, highlighting a selection of key moments and trends in the history of the feminist avant-garde. What has been the specific contribution of non-conformist women artists and writers to the feminist cause? What effects have the practices of historical, neo- and later avant-garde women figures had on art and beyond? And what remains to be done?
Sascha Bru, a Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Leuven in Belgium, has produced over 20 books on avant-garde art and writing. For more information, visit this website.
