In January 2026, the Kassák Foundation launched a five-year ERC-funded research project titled ProletGard – The Cultural Vanguard of Workers’ Movements: A Social History of the East Central European Avant-Garde between the Two Wars. Focusing on East Central Europe, the project explores the relationship between workers’ culture and the artistic avant-garde during the interwar period.
Our new website introduces the project’s main research questions, and in the coming weeks we will also present the members of our international research team. The website was designed by artist Klára Rudas, with whom the Kassák Museum and the Kassák Foundation have collaborated on several exhibitions and publications over the past decade.
